Monster Jam® Takes Over Sunrise: What to Know About this Full-scale Motorsports Spectacle Before You Go

AUGUST 22–23, 2026 — Amerant Bank Arena, Sunrise, FL

Monster Jam® returns to South Florida this August with a two-day run at Amerant Bank Arena, bringing its signature mix of motorsports competition and live arena spectacle. The event combines technical driving, high-impact stunts, and audience scoring into a format that shifts into a full-scale motorsports spectacle where competition, entertainment, and fan interaction collide in real time.

Far beyond a traditional racing event, Monster Jam has evolved into one of the most immersive live touring productions in family entertainment, blending elite technical driving with the unpredictability of freestyle competition. Massive custom-built trucks launch across dirt tracks engineered specifically for each arena, while drivers are pushed to balance speed, precision, creativity, and crowd engagement under intense conditions.

What separates Monster Jam from many live sports experiences is the format itself. The competition unfolds across multiple segments, including head-to-head racing, precision-based two-wheel challenges, and the wildly popular freestyle rounds, where drivers attempt increasingly aggressive tricks, jumps, recoveries, and stunts in pursuit of fan-driven scoring and the overall Event Championship.

Unlike scripted entertainment properties, Monster Jam’s outcomes shift in real time. Track conditions evolve throughout the show, forcing drivers to continuously adapt strategy, manage risk, and respond to changing terrain. By the time freestyle competition begins, the dirt surface is often deeply altered from earlier rounds, adding another layer of unpredictability that can dramatically impact scoring and performance.

The South Florida lineup is expected to feature several of the franchise’s most recognizable trucks and personalities, including Grave Digger®, El Toro Loco®, Sparkle Smash®, JCB DIGatron™, Classroom Crusher™, Terminal Velocity, Jester, and Excalibur. Drivers such as Krysten Anderson, Kayla Blood, Armando Castro, and Charlie Pauken III have helped expand the sport’s reach with loyal fan followings that extend well beyond traditional motorsports audiences.

Another major draw is the Monster Jam Pit Party®, which gives attendees early access to the arena floor before the main event begins. Fans can interact directly with drivers, see the trucks up close, and gain a behind-the-scenes look at the engineering, maintenance, and logistics required to operate some of the most recognizable vehicles in live entertainment. For many families, the Pit Party has become as much a part of the experience as the competition itself.

The event also reflects the continued growth of experiential live entertainment, where audiences increasingly seek immersive, interactive environments rather than passive viewing experiences. Monster Jam’s combination of athleticism, stunt performance, fan participation, and arena-scale production has helped it maintain multi-generational appeal while continuing to expand its national touring footprint.

Event Format and Competition

Each show is built around three segments:

  • Racing — bracket-style, head-to-head runs on a purpose-built dirt track
  • 2 Wheel Skills — controlled balance maneuvers, judged on precision
  • Freestyle — open-format runs where drivers combine jumps, tricks, and recoveries

Drivers compete for the overall Event Championship, with scoring that includes fan input during the show.

What Makes This Event Different

Monster Jam operates without a fixed script. Track conditions evolve throughout the show, and drivers adjust strategies mid-run. The freestyle segment, in particular, often determines the outcome, as scoring depends on risk, control, and recovery under pressure.

For attendees, timing matters: earlier arrival allows for Pit Party access and avoids peak entry traffic. Evening sessions typically deliver more aggressive freestyle runs as track conditions break in.
